Wang I-Hsuan Cindy

Cindy Wang is Associate Professor in the School of Art, Design & Media, Nanyang Technological University, Singapore. Cindy holds a BFA from the School of Visual Art and a MA in New York University (NYU), Dept. of Graphic Communication Management & Technology.

Cindy’s work engages contemporary visual communication design, graphic design, art practice/exhibition approach and design theory. Cindy’s research focuses on exploring the aspect of Chinese cultural aesthetic as visual research and are supported throughout with practical example of project that illustrate designers can give their works a new layer of depth and provide their designs and products with a deeper appreciation of their culture and history.

On the other hand, Cindy also research on type forms that combines elements of Asia and Western typography is innovative from as Asian perspective and meaningful as bridge between East and West. This fusion typography is gathering tremendous interest across the globe and her work in this area establishes her as a pioneer in this exciting new area of design research. She has been successful in securing research grants to support her work.

Cindy’s design works have been recognized with the D&AD Award, ADC Award (American Designer Club Award) (US), One Show Design Award(US), Good Design Award (US), the Red Dot Design Award: Communication Design, iF Design Award, Design for Asia Award (HK), and with numerous of exhibitions locally and internationally.
